Her book “My Black Country: A Journey Through ” Country Music’s Past, Present and Future,” was published this month. I hear Black moonshiners and Black cowboys, Black nature lovers and Black ghosts, Black angels, Black freedom fighters, gunslingers and Black shotgun riders. It could start a groundswell of long overdue recognition of the overlooked Black country legends and hope for the Black country stars of the future. But for Black performers in particular, it offers a seat, at long last, at a gathering of the country music family. As I write in “My Black Country,” “I have imagined Black country and country to be born as an art form, as an aesthetic, in the year 1624 near Jamestown, Virginia.

Smokey Robinson Helped Create the Sound of Motown

In the 1960s and ‘70s, Motown Records helped to define a golden age of American music, as rhythm and blues and rock and roll became the world’s dominant pop genres. Smokey Robinson played a double role in creating the Detroit-based label’s remarkable stream of hits. The label’s founder, Berry Gordy Jr., is a songwriter whose credits include Jackie Wilson’s “Lonely Teardrops” and the Jackson Five’s “I Want You Back.” But nobody excelled in multiple roles like Mr. Robinson did. “We started out doing everything,” says Mr. Robinson. “We were promotion men and record packagers and anything else that needed to be done.”
Stacy Spikes told Insider he plans to put MoviePass out of beta and make it available for all by the summer. I wanted to put that down because I see so many times people approach me and think MoviePass was my first business. 50 Years Ago, Stevie Wonder Heard the Future
  + stars: | 2022-10-27 | by ( The New York Times | ) www.nytimes.com   time to read: +3 min
In 1972 — half a century ago — Stevie Wonder reinvented the sound of pop by embracing all he could accomplish on his own. He released two albums that year: “Music of My Mind” in March and then, less than eight months later, on Oct. 27, the even more confident and far-reaching “Talking Book.” “Talking Book” was a breakthrough on multiple fronts. Wonder had given signs on earlier albums, particularly his self-produced “Where I’m Coming From” (1971), that he would not just be writing love songs. In their test run — a three-day weekend working together in the studio — Wonder wrote 17 songs. From 1972-74, with Wonder writing the songs and Cecil and Margouleff programming the sounds, they would make four landmark albums: “Music of My Mind,” “Talking Book,” “Innervisions” and “Fulfillingness’ First Finale.”
